Cavity Wall

Stay warm and save money by installing cavity wall insulation in your home.

Most homes constructed between 1920 and the 1980’s were built with double external walls, with an air pocket (or cavity) between them. The logic behind this was to keep moisture out. However it’s estimated that around 35% of the heat in an un-insulated home of this type will seep out through its walls. To prevent this, the empty cavity should be filled with insulation.

The owner of an average-sized home currently using natural gas will see savings between £180-800 each year simply by having cavity wall insulation installed. They will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 1 tonne. If the home uses electric or coal heat, the cost savings will be significantly higher. Having cavity wall insulation installed typically costs a few hundred pounds for an average-sized home. Since it’s guaranteed for 25 years, it’s easy to see that your investment will pay for itself several times over during this time.

Cavity wall insulation is commonly made from mineral wool, beads or granules, or foam. Our professional installers will drill small holes about every 1.5 m around the outside of your home, then blow the insulation into the empty cavity using our specialized equipment. The holes will be thoroughly resealed with matching mortar, so you will not be able to see where they were drilled, and to prevent moisture from entering your home. This is a very clean process, and takes only a few hours for an average-sized home.

Call our consultants to schedule a free evaluation of your home, and find out if it’s is a good candidate for cavity wall insulation. The cavity must measure more than 50 mm (2”), and your exterior wall masonry must be in good condition.
